Craig Murray

Former diplomat working for the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office and Ambassador to Uzbekistan Craig Murray fell foul of the establishment when the exposed the violations of human rights and torture in Uzbekistan by the Karimov administration. Now a journalist, author and human rights activist he championed the cause of Julian Assange in his fight against extradition to the United States where he was wanted, effectively for treason though Assange is an Australian citizen, over the release of diplomatic cables at Wikileaks - colloquially known as Cablegate. He crossed swords once again with the establishment during the failed prosecution of Alex Salmond when he was retrospectively charged with the crime of "Jigsaw identification" of the defendants in the case. This despite the fact that several journalists for mainstream media publications had published similar information which was more revealing. His trial which resulted in him being sentenced to 8 months imprisonment was widely seen as politically motivated.
