Currency

Which currency will an independent Scotland use is the essential question for any mischief maker who wants to sow seeds of doubt. It's a question of surprising significance in Scottish politics, particularly since other countries, particularly those "liberated" by the collapse of the Soviet Union were able to quickly move from using the Russian Ruble to their own currency with few problems and even fewer controversies. One possibility for the inflammatory nature is that the question has not been given much serious thought and there is some hesitation at the possibility of fiscal autonomy and the potential for destabilisation of a small economy. However there are an abundance of cases that show it need not be a complicated question. Estonia moved from using the Ruble to the Kroon with little disruption. If only the transition to using the Euro had been so trouble free though that can mostly be blamed on the 2008 Financial Crisis where high risk debts were priced in Euros rather than the change in currency in itself.
