Electoral Commission

The Electoral Commission is the London-based guardian of the rules - as far as elections goes. There is a small amount of controversy in the way it operates. For example when the Alba Party was registered it took a number of weeks before the logo was approved. As a result, the ballots for the 2021 elections to the Scottish Parliament in Holyrood were printed with the logo - easily the most recognisable item of any political party. Fortunately Alba was near the top of the list so the "cunning plan" to suppress the vote was thwarted. In the same election the All for Unity party founded by George Galloway in July 2020 was able to use the circle symbol used by the Royal Air Force as it's logo. Given that All for Unity is considered a British Nationalist Party the importance of the symbolism was apparently lost on the Electoral Commission.
